FORCE Fest 2006

FORCE Fest 2006 was held at Apeejay School, Sheikh Sarai on 28-29 November 2006. Short story – we came Overall Runners Up! And, since this is my blog, I gotta mention we came runners up in the quiz too.

Now the long story, for fans of my incredibly long posts. This was an event that was make-or-break for the Code Warriors team, since the school administration had made it clear that we weren’t going to have Code Wars if we didn’t win something. Apparently, Exun 06 wasn’t enough for them! Force was an event where we had to participate in all events for an overall position, so we had a hard time hunting down members for all, but we finally stitched together one, hastily albeit because we’d mixed up its timings with certain other events going on right now.

Day 1 saw my regular quizzing partner Prannoy unable to turn up since his mom didn’t allow him to. I had to go with this talented youngster we have in CW called Vivek, who although is in class 8, really IS a good quizzer, at least in the tech domain. The quiz and the crossword were on at the same time, so we like most other teams, had to hop from one to the next.

First there was the quiz, in a computer lab with PCs from the era when dinosaurs ruled the earth. The prelims looked more as if they were some sort of subjective-type exam to some cheap computer course, rather than a quiz paper of a school that has produced ace quizzers like Ankit Sud and Dhruv Chopra. It was easy though, and we wrapped it up pretty quickly, to rush off to a primary lab for the crossword, where the highly intelligent organisers thought that we all could comfortably sit on chairs for nursery class students (it was their primary lab).

Crossword prelims really left me bored, the worst of its kind with nothing cryptic at all (those ones are really fun to figure out, and I like that). It was all straight forward, that to sucky 3-4 letter ones that flit around like bugs. We came first in this though, but it really sucked.

The crossword finals were held the same day (after a one hour delay), and it was TOTALLY mismanaged. Initially the organisers said that there were going to be four rounds, but even after clues were remaining they suddenly cut it shot three, effectively ruining our strategy of not going in for the bigger words (we were waiting for confirmations to our hunches as the letters filled in), and we had all those figured out. Organisers, in the first round, had made all the clues visible (technically that is, projection was bad and blurred), rather than the regular blind method. Suddenly some bright kid then had the idea in the second round to shift the crossword app window to hide the clues. The crossword finals seemed rigged, with KR Mangalam World School coming first by a huge margin, while others were far behind. Finals were pathetic too, with no cryptic clues, either you knew it, or didn’t, and there were some ambiguous ones too. KRM, a school which knew nothing at Exun, WarP or any other event suddenly knew what Fios (a Verizon service nobody else in the quizzing circle has heard of, and believe me, the people I’m talking about are no fools), .env, cron etc were. Even the seating was suspect, since rather than making us pick chits to decide, they did it randomly. I still have neck pain though, due to the organisers who made us sit incredibly close to a giant screen, that I had to strain my neck to unimaginable angles.

To our horror, the story repeated itself in almost every other event, where far more deserving schools, and here I’m even ready to accept ones other than DPS VK, didn’t get positions, while KRM did. Fortunately, from sources, we found out some rigging was going on, and an SMS as proof from a KRM guy to back it up.

Day 2 started off with the quiz finals, which were equally stupid. I certainly didn’t expect such a pathetic quiz, and I was looking forward to Ankit Sud conducting it, but I guess couldn’t come due to exams. Really stupid things, like MCD website, company headquarters with logo visible, kid-stuff questions like the three-finger salute, and a rotten scoring system where only one point was given per correct answer in the acronym round (when all others had 10 points, it doesn’t make sense to have one-pointers). It was all on luck, that DPS Mathura Road got most of the passes, sitting right next to a weak team Ramjas, and a freaked out (at the stupid questions) MIS. It was a close finish in a quiz that was so dumb. DPS RKP were totally fooling around in both the crossword and the quizzes, with Manas making funny noises and regularly (almost) insulting the organisers. ROFL at his funny noises and comments still.

I guess KRM and / or Force members got scared after the news circulated around, and I guess day 2 was pretty fair, with the best teams winning events. CW team bagged a few others too.

However, we NEEDED the overall to convince the school for Code Wars, and in a historic event, DPS Vasant Kunj, Mathura Road, and RK Puram got to together, with Mothers International to complain about unfair judging in events, and we told their computer HoD. We went to the extent of applauding and cheering each other while the individual prizes were being distributed, something that generally does not happen. Gotta mention though, winners got pen drives.

Then came the time for the overall winners, and we waited anxiously as to what the school had decided. Force showed that they would stand up for truth, and the overall position went to deserving winners MIS, with DPS VK getting the Overall Runners Up trophy.

A thanks all branches of DPS, and MIS for supporting us. Congrats to MIS too, for performing so well everywhere despite having very few members. Looking forward to an Ankit Sud quiz next year (he’s promised me). And do look at the overall trophy we got. I think that clinches Code Wars for us. That, plus the CD-RW that the school will be getting from this event, and I think that now there should be NO reason for the school to turn us down. After all, we won overall at Exun, and did pretty well at WarP too.

    Greetings my friends,

I am SAURABH DARGAR , President IT Clan K.R.MANGALAM WORLD SCHOOL

Certainly FORCEFEST 2006 turned out to be great for us [K.R.Mangalam World School),It being the first year into participating this was a break , and certainly took us time to pick out students to participate. It is really astonishing and a great pity to see that such well known and mastermind IT teams such as CODE WARRIORS are unable to digest the fact that there could be any other competitor reaching unto their level. I b’leev Dhruv chopra [METHEAD] would never have anything of this sort to say, certainly no, he being from Apeejay would very well know that it is practically impossible to fix any events, be it promo making or Ad-Mad or any other event, I mean how would you justify rigging events where they had external judges, I for one cannot at all b’leev so, and you speak of proof in your statement, you may if you wish , withdraw all the evaluation sheets from Apeejay, I am certain that it would be free from any discrepancies.

Talking about the whole “SMS” thing you mentioned, yes we did receive a SMS from some person by the name ankur, who is apparently a friend of our team member. He returned the message saying “ARE YOU MAD THERE IS NOTHING OF THIS SORT” and what we learn from a FORCE member is that we sent a message saying “ARE YOU MAD PLEASE DONT TELL ANYONE”, and we were also told that on day 2 that this “PERSON” had edited the message, and went around showing it to other participants.

We are not unhappy about the fact that we didn’t win the rolling trophy but about the fact that other participants can roam around defaming us and our school, it is a GREAT PITY TO SEE SO.

I very well understand this discussion is of no good and no productivity, but yes I certainly would like to advise the so called “TOP PLAYERS” to be a bit sportier and not actually WHINE about the fact that someone may be better than them.

Hope for some more fun and hardcore quizzing!!
    May the best team win!!

and…one more thing …we being a new school on the circuit does not mean in any way that we do not hold the potential to get positions, and as for me I got 3rd position in web-d , kendriya vidyalaya 1st and MIS 2nd, how is that unfair??… simple as it is, if my website has a good design and appeal which is judged better than others by the judge , then i am bound to get a position…am i or not ?….

and as you say that day 2 was fair….it certainly was , just like day one.

Gettin’ a little too hasty, a little too fast here. Now :

    Qizzard Says :
with KR Mangalam World School coming first by a huge margin, while others were far behind.

And tells you didn’t even deserve to come close to winning anywere. Get your facts straight first before going on slaphappy finger pointing trip. KRM scored 45, the school which came second scored a close 35, while the rest followed by 20 and below. That’s not a huge margin by any means whatsoever. (We only won by one straight answer, 10 points…)

    Quizzard Says :

KRM, a school which knew nothing at Exun, WarP or any other event suddenly knew what Fios (a Verizon service nobody else in the quizzing circle has heard of, and believe me, the people I’m talking about are no fools)

Well as we hear it, everything happens for the first time. Your overflawed analogy on logic of probability of who should actually be winning sort of gives you the power to already predict the winners of these Symposiums, now doesn’t it? Needless to say now, your argument is quite baseless and lacking in any semblance of logical coherence.

Talking about Verizon, I’ve resident San Jose, CA. for almost 2 years, I think I know more about these companies better than anyone here for that matter, pretty much proves you’re trying to pick a battle with no feet to stand on. Keep on talking like this and people won’t even answer questions related to Comcast and AOL even if they know it.

and an SMS as proof from a KRM guy to back it up.

One of you rigged it. SMS was sent to us out of nowhere, but the implied is actually a totally different matter, look Sourabh’s post up above for that.

Though, I find myself to be a little surprised as to how we even managed 2 other 1st Positions (in Promo and Cartoon), because its a fact we hadn’t even managed to get ourselves nominated in all the sections we participated in Exun 05, Exun 06 and Warp. Feel free to request the media to both of them and see it for yourself (and then question the sanity of the judges if you’re further intrigued, which you shouldn’t), a little preparation before hand is all it takes.

All this talk of an edited SMS with changed wordings is bullshit, and I’m sure no FORCE member would’ve been mad enough to say such a thing. For one, you may even want to speak to DPS MR, and DPS RKP guys who’d seen the SMS, it was a different one we were referring to. Plus, there was a FORCE member whom I quote ‘the crossword paper may have been leaked unintentionally’.

BTW, has anyone noticed that this KRM IT Clan Pres, Saurabh, is somehow associated with DreamSkulls, that’s the link which opens when you click to see his Blogger profile.

For the uninitiated, I may point out that DreamSkulls was the sponsor for FORCE Fest 06. Now THAT is something which speaks for itself – we all know that it’s a tradition for companies never to allow their employees or even their relatives to participate in events sponsored by them. The fact itself makes the whole thing highly suspicious, that the sponsors themselves are participating via KRM. I’d say that’s a bit fishy, and unfair if they end up winning.

There! I just saw DreamSkulls site, and Saurabh is the one of the founding members, along with Rohan Ghosh, current FORCE president (I remember him from that day). This clearly shows a link, and the fact that the event may have been compromised at the highest level. And the sponsor himself is participating, and winning an event, which is totally suspicious.

I’d say apart from our SMS, the Code Warriors have conclusively established that the event may have been compromised, if not, then ethics demanded that sponsors themselves should not participate.

The KRM had gone to WarP and Exun too, where they could hardly answer anything. Sudden enlightenment at FORCE Fest? :P

You’re proving nothing but how desperate you are by trying to justify your loss’s. Our teachers taught Appejay before therefore we don’t deserve to win?

All this talk of an edited SMS with changed wordings is bullshit,

If there’s any way for you to prove, go ahead. We’ll stick with what we’ve said.

I believe that this fruitless discussion must end

With you flying all around with your false accusations all over the web, no. You’ve made it fruitless, we’re simply correcting our stance here.

BTW, has anyone noticed that this KRM IT Clan Pres, Saurabh, is somehow associated with DreamSkulls, that’s the link which opens when you click to see his Blogger profile.

Yeah, so? You’ve found the missing chain link to the biggest mystery ever? I see you’re good friends with some of the guys of the Exun clan, and others as well, but does that prove anything?

The KRM had gone to WarP and Exun too, where they could hardly answer anything. Sudden enlightenment at FORCE Fest? :P

You’re clearly dodging your way out here, did you even read our posts above?

Looks like you’ll rant on anything you don’t end up winning in. If you’re so good and so damn sure you’re better than any student in KRM, what stopped you from coming second to us? Or now did Force Fest authorities leaked the paper to every school but yours? We had a pretty close win, one wrong answer and we would’ve had a draw leading to another round.
And the fact you prefered Manas’s cheap attempts at trying to be funny sort of strips you off whatever crediblity you once preserved. Please go ahead, solve this mystery further, maybe Apeejay has now invested a good share in KRM and even funded its foundations, its all just waiting for you to find it, though I could go on and state how 9/10 schools that won at WARP was a DPS school being hosted by a DPS school, but I won’t, because unlike you here, we actually have sporting spririt and don’t go on an endless whining trip whenever we lose. And please keep it up, its getting rather funny now.

I would point out here that you’re wrong when you say WarP and Exun were dominated by DPS in 90% of events – if you’ve seen the scoreboard, then other schools too have won equally, and they deserved those wins.

You’ve evaded the issue that the sponsor himself participated in the event. Don’t you believe that ethics demand that someone sponsoring something not take part in it?

Anyway, this hotshot pres of your, I visited his DreamSkulls. Apparently, this guy who can create websites for international companies ‘forgot’ to upload pages at certain places which are still linked to his home computer’s filesystem, under (I guess his mom) Shubhra Dargar’s account. Do tell him that if he wants to convince people he can win a Web D Event, then he should make proper sites, and something which has less of grammatical and spelling errors. :P

Funny to see you trying to defend your position in vain. Give me a straightforward answer as to how any sponsor thinks it’s ethically correct to participate in his own event, and win it (doubtfully), and then claim that everything was unbiased.

Anyplace where I could look at the scoreboard? Seems the only place A DPS didn’t make it was in gaming.

    Quizzard says :

You’ve evaded the issue that the sponsor himself participated in the event. Don’t you believe that ethics demand that someone sponsoring something not take part in it?

Absolutely. But the sponsor here was in no position to influence any authority when it came to planning of the event. So ethics here don’t block him from participating in it in any means whatsoever. Cut with your ethical bullcrap right here.

    Quizzard says:

Its like a choking fish. You’re apprently going to try to judge his skills from his part-time work which you don’t even know if only halfway through yet. Oh yes, talking about spelling errors, your gall of coming to this length after mistaking Principle for a Principal is nothing short of being truly amazing yet so immature, XD

    Quizzard says :

@quizzard : please dont post about this , its a request. Plus your dubbing of KRM guys as dumb smells of arrogance i daresay.

About dreamskulls : arey yaar , its not a company , its basically a group of teenagers who design sites . Sponsors , LOL , no they were definately not sponsors , maybe they bought the domain and wanted dreamskulls in sposors category , you talk as if its some corporate house.

About fixing crossword and quiz , i really dont know AFAIK , nothing happened, if it hadnt been for my stupid exams i would have conducted them all my self and this problem wouldnt have arisen , damn that vinayaka. who was handling the crossword event plz enlighten me , was it the same guy as the quiz.

Anyway , next year there isnt going to be a prob , the fest will be scheduled according to my exams mam has assured me.

As far as out principal going to KRM , well Goswami mam was the BEST principal we EVER had , i have no qualms in saying that , i dont know what dhruv must be thinking when he made that statement , will ask him though definately. just because teachers change schools it doesnt mean favouritism is there. AFAIK judges were external people with no bias.

it is highly astonishing to see that “THE GREAT QUIZZARD” is tryin to prove his baseless point by picking out facts which actually belong on either side side of the universe.

and if you wish, certainly confirm from dhruv chopra as to what my standing as a web designer is,[lets take an example,2 years (2004) ago at e-spice i got the first position in web-d and DPSVK came second….so now who would you blame?…dps noida??…or did we fix it up with them too?? ] and as far as the broken links you talk about are concerned ,the website currently is under a major revamp, which you can very well see for yourself due to the unavailability of some pages, and i am very sorry to see that this new Gen of code warriors are such sissies, ironical eh?…[ dont b’leev me ??…look at your previous batch ]..

and as far as the great quizzard is concerned, all i conclude is that he is just another smug from downtown california,

“”Anyway, this hotshot pres of your””….aah is that what you think of me…i thank you…god bless you….

and if my company hold the potential to sponsor an event such as force fest ,it is my will to do so and if APJ had any objection then they would have denied my participation via KRM …and as far as you you talk about ethics…haaa !!…. please …you dont wanna go there…you seriously do not wanna…

    1. LOL was for sponsoring part , i am pretty sure i know who sponsored and who didnt , last year also saurabh’s dad only had bought the domain for us. As far as no one messing with dreamskulls , i was also a part of that company as far as i remember for a brief period , why would i like to mess with it. but i stick to what i said , its not a corporate house , nor is it a huge company , its a startup which needs incubation.

    2. “one of the youngest President & Vice-prez in India”
Hmmmm , who decides that , AFAIK under companies act , under 18s cant be prez , or vice prez or for that matter even have a company. Limca book of records seriously needs to check its refrences. No wonder no one buys that book.

    3. Fixing blah again , no fixing i say again , i seriously believe no one in force could have stooped so low , although the topic was leaked out by a certain someone , cough cough !!! , my view on this is this shouldnt have happened. Whether it provided an advantage or not , i dont know , but it was totally unethical and i would have never done it and called it ethical or fair , but again this is not the fault of the participating school KRM , the one person who actually leaked the topic is to blame.

Heh, I see you’re having fun playing the Big Daddy here Ankit, but this should be expected after this Quizzard fellow went on a troll trip with absolutely no proof to support his claims. Hopefully Quizzard won’t delete these line of comments (he will if he’s feeling ashamed now), because there needs to be an example of this. All those veterans out there with their own personal ranting spaces they call their blogs, try not to use it to abuse upcoming schools just because you have no other reason to explain to your teacher why you failed.

This being my last post here (hopefully),
    Param.

woopie , time for me to get a life !!!

what am i going to do with all the free time ?

Paramveer – you probably dont know me , APJ SS was my school , i am not acting ‘big daddy’ or anything (why should i , ask saurabh , he was my junior , did i ever act big daddy saurabh ? :P (i just replied coz this line hurt me , i am not an arrogant fool is precisely what i want to say), just trying to defuse matters (i dont have fun at other people’s expense , just wanted to lighten the mood), dont want you guys to be bloodhungry the next time u meet. THATS WHY ! , bad blood is never good , take it from a guy who has had experience in this inter school fighting and all. :P

Its appreciated. Never mind the Big Daddy part please, you’ve got all the rights here to diffuse the matters you think are necessary.
Though I speak for the entire KRM here, so forth we’ll hold no grudges against DPS VK or any other school included in this little ‘controversy’. Its history now.

Peace out and good luck, Ankit Sud and all others here.
