Electric ARC #39: The NTU Story Ends Here For Me

Filed Under (Arun Roy Classes, Education, Updates) by Ankur on 12 March, 2008

Yup folks, my application for Nanyang Technological University got rejected. Bit odd, eh? So while all the merry folk get prepped for the NTU exams on 16th and 17th of March, I get to weep a lot, for I’m no longer in the running for an address at 42, Nanyang Avenue. The ONLY bit of my application which sucked (big time) were my marks in English in the 10th Boards - 79. Yeah yeah, I know, many people wonder how I got THAT when they hear about it, but hey, that’s fucking CBSE for you - fucking up the lives of countless students with shoddy checking, shoddy papers, shoddy (NIC-hosted) websites, et al. All running courtesy the taxpayers’ money. Makes me really really really pissed…

  1. I’m in da same league. Jus’that my Eng. marks DID NOT suk. 88 aint bad foe icse. Nor did anything else, Everythin was in the bracket of 88-94. Sob. No Singapore this year. (More) Sob. Period.

  2. dude that was 79…i remember

  3. its sad…….very sad….missing out on ‘42′ Nanyang thing…..we understand ur sentiments…

  4. 69??!!! I have heard about people good in english getting bad marks in cbse but THIS is a new low.Like we say in Design, the target consumer is God and you have design stuff that he will appreciate leaving your own sense of aesthetics aside even if its the trashiest work you have ever done in your life.If you wrote in the paper the kind of stuff you write on the blog it would probably have been like ballad to baboons.
    I am truly sorry for you.

  5. Ah well you could always send them a letter bomb or something….

  6. @Ankit: Point noted, shit yeah! (I checked up my post on Board marks.) Thanks for pointing out. :) Anyway, other similar colleges like NUS in Singapore prefer ones with 85%, so I think it falls low.

    @Eeshu: Et tu? I guess the other marks would’ve hurt in your case.

    @Agrim: Thanks.

    @Uma: Er, might I add here that in the class XII English Board held recently, I finished the paper 45 minutes early, and spent the rest of the time writing lame PJs after each and every answer? That is, in addition to the lame PJs that I had already incorporated into my answers. I think I’m not going to like my English marks in 12th either…

    @Anuj: Or maybe anthrax…

  7. Ah well…if you go looking for trouble you will definitely find it :-).Save your skills in language for places where they would be appreciated.I actually had to work hard during my paper to make the answers as dumb as is possible for me(Though I am still not sure that I was dumb enough).

  8. Well Its bad to get rejected mate, but maybe there are better and bigger things ahead….
    English Board 2morrow - I hope to get good marks because I am dumb enough or I hope Chop Singh checks my paper which once some teacher told us gave students 95-99 like distributing sweets. Anyways, lets hope for the best.
    ;-)

  9. @Prateek: Yes dude, you really need to pray you get a good examiner.

    @Uma: I’ve no idea why I did what I did! I was just so bored, with nothing else to do for 45 whole minutes!

  10. I’m a pervert Ankur - look at your marks in English again. Closely…

  11. u got another chance man!
    go 42 go!
    i hope u make it thru the dce entrance..the college is damn prestigious…
    + i was wondering why our teacher never sent us to Code Wars…
    had u guys INVITED Amity, Saket?

  12. NTU /NUS routinely googles it’s applicants. It seems your bad - mouthing your peers got you into trouble. In this digital age, nothing is hidden.

  13. @Tech Nut: Huh? I don’t get it…

    @Agrim: I know, DCE is prestigious…but needs a high rank. Only ~900 seats. Yes, of course we had invited Amity. We do every year! :)

    @Sanjiv: Bad mouthing…my peers? Hmm, have I really done that?

  14. Look who cares? If they didn’t take you it’s not your fault what matters is your capability to do a task and how well you do it, do what you love and don’t give a fuck about the world.

  15. @Anuj: Gee…that’s one of the most…sensible things someone has said to me about this. :)

  16. Thank you *bows*
