Download Jack Kilby Science Quiz Archives

I never got to participate in the Texas Instruments sponsored Jack Kilby Science Quiz, because I was too old to meet the age criteria. It’s a fun quiz though, I’ve heard, and I had an archive of the quiz compiled by Prateek Vijayavargia lying with me for quite some time; just hadn’t had time to go through it. I did get some time recently, and am putting up the archive now. Most of the stuff was done by Prateek, but I did add a bit, especially one question which I think was wrong. Standard of the quiz is quite okay, given that it is targetted at students of and below 10th standard. Obviously, tech does seem to be an important topic while preparing for this quiz/ Enjoy the archives.
Hi Ankur:
Thanks to you and Prateek for putting that together. The questions do look interesting.
@Deepak: You’re welcome.
Would appreciate your help if you could provide some info on reading ,material/sites for Jack Kilby quiz. have looked into the 2006 downloads, any plans to put up the 2007 questions too before the ‘08 quiz?
@Abhirath: Nope, don’t have the 2007 archive. For preparing for the quiz, I would suggest you to go through funtrivia.com quizzes on science and tech.
Ankur it probably seems that the question which you had marked wrong is actually correct.Probably,there’s a spelling mistake in that question.
But anyways,thanks for your great help.
You can check this link for verification on your doubt:-

@S Vignesh: Glad that you found it useful.
In fact, the question has been lifted from the Wikipedia entry on arsenic, according to me. It says that the Greeks borrowed the word ‘arsenikon’ from the from the Persian word ‘zarnikh’. However, that’s Wikipedia. Oxford English Dictionary maintains that it was the Greeks. http://www.askoxford.com/concise_oed/arsenic?view=uk
Given a toss between the two, I’d go with OED instead of Wiki.
Thanks
ya,but anyways the indirect origin is from ‘Zarnikh’ itself.Thanks for the link to prepare for the quiz.Now atleast, I can prepare myself for it.
Can you please tell from where can I study for this quiz?
The questions seem to be very tough and I can’t find them in a single book
Please tell me from where do I need to study for this quiz. I don’t know a single word of science history and by mistake, I got selected for this.
@Vignesh: Yes, but there’s no concrete source which can vouch for the Persian word.
Wikipedia is a user-edited encyclopedia and anyway, encyclopedias are generally not considered to be worthy of quoted as primary sources.
@Aviruddh: NONE of the stuff which comes in ANY quiz is ever from any book. It’s your knowledge and interest in that field which counts - and determines your success.
@Anshul: Again, as I said to Aviruddh, you can’t ’study’ for a quiz. This isn’t an ‘exam’. For many questions, for instance, you need to think outside the box to make connections between different items and crack the question. So my suggestion is that you really need to enjoy the process than ’study’ for it. Try funtrivia.com’s science sections, BTW.
Thanks for the complement.
I got it.
Aww
No quiz archive for 2007? And the quiz is 2morrow.
Any chance of updating it today?
@Aditya: Nope, I don’t have the 2007 archive. Best of luck tomorrow.
:(God knows what type of questions will come in the quiz tomorrow and demolish are minds.;)
Nah, the quiz isnt so tough. But logic is required. Questions are excellent thought. I especially liked that Kate Moss question.
Thanks for the 2006 archives!
Hi there!
We went to the quiz (I went with my sister, my friend Agrim went with Shreyans Jain). Did pretty well: we both qualified for the stage round, where we finished 5th and 4th respectively. Too bad we screwed up some stuff which cost us a podium place.
Anyways, thanks for the questions you posted. They really got us in the groove for this thing.
@Arjun: Glad that you found it useful. Sometimes, luck also plays a role so it’s sad that you lost out today. Anyway, I’m sure the experience will help you in future quizzes.
Hi Ankur:
You will be happy to know..Me and my classmate won the Regional Round from Bangalore eventhough lost the National final to Chennai.
@Deepak: Hey, congratulations!
