HT InQuizitive 2008 Winners, originally uploaded by Ankur Banerjee.

Group photo of the HT Inquizitive 2008 Delhi finals participants. You’ll find Prateek Vijayavargia in the pic, next to that hot chick (no, I’m not talking about Annapoorna Sehgal :p) who’s standing beside Siddhartha Basu.

    I believe their camera quality is bad, because they carried a larger version of this photo in HT Next (The Student Edition) and it was bad!

    @Prateek: I found this version from the HT ePaper archive. They must’ve blown this same lower resolution picture up to a bigger size, which is why it looked bad.

    PS – That chick standing next to you is really hot. ;)

    @Keshav: 18 is too low – the qualifying score is generally around 23-24. That said, I do hope this outing at the quiz provided you good experience for next year. Wish you luck with future quizzes.

    18 is not very low – They must have just missed the qualifying. There were 25 qns this time, and not 30 if u were thinking so…..
    @Keshav – Thanks a lot, I think we got around 20. Which school r u from?

    @Aman and Keshav – Yes I am from New Era Public School, Mayapuri. Quizzing at our school is nothing special – Therez a bunch of students who are interested and we do everything on our own, mostly.
    As for preparation, its mostly from Newspapers, Magazines, TV, Internet and Books. Ya, I mean pretty general and cud be specific for each Quiz ;-)

    I am from New State Academy sr. Sec. school.

    @Prateek
    You were also brilliant in Olympics quiz by TOI. In that quiz , we were not able to score on the visuals only . The written round was very easy but those five visuals were tough.

    In our school also , there are only 4-5 students mainly in quizzing.

    Heyy Prateek , Does ur school participates in CBSE Heritage Quiz also ?? Never seen you dere from d last 2 yrs. We have been qualifying d written round from last 2 years but we didnt go ahead.

    @Aman – Thanks a lot :-) Many of the teams tripped on the visuals actually as the dries were pretty easy….I think we got 2 out of the 4. Yes, I have been participating in the CBSE Heritage India Quiz from the past 2 years and also gave it this year. Just that since its not a team effort and all the 3 members scores are added (My partners have not performed well), we have not been able to go past the prelims :-(. Results for this year are awaited and I am hoping for a positive one. Thats One Quiz I would like to do well in….And preparations for building a good team for Class XII shall start soon. Whats your email address, Aman? It would be great to u know abt any other quizzes…

    @Agrim – Yes, Amity NOIDA did qualify but Saket did not…I thought u wud come – I suppose I dont believe in the concept of Seniors Going even if they are going for the last time (Just because its their last year, does not mean they shall go everywhere) – I believe the best team should represent the school – Whatever it shall be. Hope to c u soon in some quizzes….How r Class X Boreds prep going?

    @Agrim: Seriously, the best team should be sent, and not something based on club politics. That’s how DPS VK sent a second-rung team to HT InQuizitive this year – because of club politics! Were you there at HT too?

    @Aman: Of course I know Utkarsh. I know he’s real good at heritage, those guys won the Delhi regionals last year, didn’t they? I was also there at the DPS Dwarka round, but with all our team members (including me) being from 12th we *really* were out of touch. ;) Quite a lot of ‘good’ teams including DPS RKP didn’t qualify last year. BTW, have you checked out the Contemporary India Quiz I conducted? Utkarsh came for that too, and they were leading pretty much throughout the event – but crashed out in the last round. Really felt sorry for them.

    @Prateek: That’s one ‘problem’ with the HIQ prelims – each individual member needs to perform well. ;) But I guess that ensures that everyone on the team works hard.

    @Ankur – yaaa u were also dere in the 2nd round. we were dere in the 1st round with Indian School, Muscat and DPS Rohini. And u with DAV and DPS Dwarka. We both came second.

    Utkarsh is brilliant at Heritage.I dnt like 1 thing abt CBSE HIQ . We have reached d delhi regionals defeating around 200 schools of Delhi. And CBSE doesnt even give a Certificate of participation , to be in top 15 schools of delhi is a BIG deal i suppose.

    yaa I checkd dat India Contemporary Quiz but d files of Round 1 and 2 were nt opening. And i cudnt understand sum of the AV questions

    @Aman: Ah yes, there’s nothing to show for the fact that we made it that far in HIQ. Guess that’s CBSE for you.

    About the files, you need Office 2007 to open them. Maybe that’s why they were not opening on your system. Which AV questions did you have a doubt about? Just send me those doubts through the contact form on this page – http://www.ankurb.info/contact/ – and I’ll get back to you with the explanations.

    BTW, Ankur – Does HT Give Certificates for Inquizitive? Because I did not get mine, and when I asked one of the HT Volunteers – she sad, “U wont be getting any certificates” – I was like ‘Wow’….The point is that the prizes and trophies are just for the euphoria and hysteria, but the value of a certificate is more as you can preserve and show it even after years.
    I hope I do get mine later.

We conduct an computer-themed event called Code Wars annually, which has various events like quizzing, crossword, programming, web designing et al. It’s one of the biggest computer symposiums in Delhi with over 40 schools from across Delhi participating. Last year, it was sponsored by Intel and Lenovo. You can have a look at last year’s quiz and all over here – http://www.ankurb.info/2007/11/21/code-wars-2007-loadsa-downloads/

    good to see a lotta activity in the quizzing scene in delhi. it kinda makes me miss school quizzing!
    here, the quizzing level is way way above everything, but it is mainly because they concentrate a lot on pop culture, and less on the type of questions asked in school quizzes, which require trivia and working out. i guess i will have to get used to it!

    congrats prateek, hope u win columban and nie next yr to complete the big 3 of Delhi Quizzing!

    @ Agrim and all those in Classes 8-10 – The Jack Kilby Science and Technology Quiz 2008 is here! And its the best science quiz there is! Its conducted by the KQA and is one of the few Quality Quizzes around! More details here – http://www.tiif.org/
    @ Ankur – Best of Luck for your SAT Subject Tests! I think people still refer to it as IIT-M…;-)
    @ Aakash – Good to know u were on stage last year 2…U deserved to win this time den! We just narrowly missed qualification last time round :-(
    @ Achyuth – Great to hear from u! Thanks a lot. Yes I think I will definitely try my best to do the treble next year – NIE Fun-da-mental Quiz, HT Inquizitive and Columban Open. I suppose for the Columban I need a more strong team and need to work on areas like English Music.
    Though we have reached Semis at Columban, won the NIE Fun-da-mental twice in Delhi (If u count the Samsung Olympics Quest as the Fun-da-mental this year) and finished second in HT Inquizitive, therez scope for a lot of improvement…And with competition getting tougher thanks to the likes of Aakash, Aman and Agrim….it will be a tough task :-)
    Yes I know Chennai has a a great quizzing culture…So have u attended any QFI/IQL/Landmark Quizzes? If u gain some experience there, u will surely rock there also!

And that too the second one should have been easier because I shown the whole line-up of chicks in the first semi-final! That was my intention too – to make the teams think during the finals “Aw shit, he’d shown all of them in the QF and I don’t remember it”. ;) (And people STILL didn’t get it right. :( ) Sigh. The participation criteria was different too – it was for classes 6-8 (instead of 9-12) this time – and in that year DPS VK held the national finals. Moreover, it was ‘Emerging India’ (a few decades before and after 1940s) which was covered.

    SAT II was good. :)
