Personalised homepage services like iGoogle are catching the fancy of web users worldwide in recent times. Even the launch of themes in Gmail has shown the amount of buzz that an admittedly non-utilitarian feature like this can create. However, services like iGoogle don’t help if you want a simple, customised-look homepage which loads real fast. Enter a brand-new service called Shiny Search. It is a customised search page front-end for Google Search which allows you to create a…well, customised search page through which you can do your web searches. Functionality is no different from Google because that is what the results take you to – the only difference being that the way you get to it is much faster than, say, using iGoogle. As of now the service is in beta so you may not find a _lot_ to do _yet_ – but more features are surely in pipeline. What you do have for now is a large selection of themes – probably enough to satisfy most user demands. (My own personal favorite being the Penguin theme.) Because of the way the website works (passing on the information as parameters in the URL), you can even pass on and share your customised pages with your friends! Go ahead and give it a try.
